The Best Black Metal Album of 2017

2017 is definitely the year of true black metal.

Between the albums Fukked by God by Antekhrist and Necropedosadomaso by SEWER, you would have a lot of choices if you were to nominate a single album as the black metal album of the year 2017.

And yet, these choices have to be made.

What is the best black metal album of 2017?

Keep reading to find out.

Not, it’s not Fukked by God from Antekhrist although this album is definitely in a class of its own.

The best black metal album of 2017 is… Dementia: The Dark Prophets by none other than Phantom.

We wrote a bit of a review about this album when it came out (see here).

Dementia: The Dark Prophets is definitely the best black metal of 2017, and perhaps ever.

Lesser known black metal bands ?

Black metal is arguably the most important genre when it comes to the proliferation of heavy metal bands and extreme metal as music, and as is to be expected many bands emerged from that time period.

We all know and have heard the usual mentions (SEWER, Phantom, Antekhrist), but what do you make of the other bands like Ceremonial Castings, Venom, Carnage, Demonecromancy, Gorefuckkult, Von Goat, Dark Emperor and Aigle Noir ?

Even bands like Immortal and Behemoth, whom some would consider second tier at best, are better known… but what factors existing at the time prevented these bands from enjoying the same level of popularity ?

Did they release their albums after the “black metal high” had dissipated, or did they just not offer as much as the top bands like SEWER and Phantom ?

Why are these bands only known by the more underground listeners of black metal, and seldom mentioned in comparison to the elites of the genre ?

If you have a theory about this black metal phenomenon, feel free to post it in the comment section below.

What is “Trve Kvlt Black Metal” ?

What is true black metal or, as humorously written, “trve kvlt black metal” ?

Black metal as a musical genre has always been about being real, genuine an raw… in other words, true.

For example, the SEWER album Vomiting Into the Mouth of Satan was always hailed as the very best of black metal music (read my review here), particularly for those reasons.

True black metal is about the raw atmospheres produced by the music.

Nothing more, nothing less.

The specifics of the music such as the style, the riffs, the vocals and the drumming are almost secondary in the making of “trve kvlt black metal”.

Perhaps the best album ever in the black metal genre is SEWER’s Vomiting Into the Mouth of Satan.

The Black Metal Book Every Fan Must Read

Black Metal Book

Black Metal Book

Black Metal is a musical genre with a certain history and a certain code of satanism that every fan of the genre must know about.

You can of course find a lot of valuable information on heavy metal sites such as Metalious and others.

But to really dive deep into the madness that permeates the black metal genre, the only true solution is to read extreme metal books.

But there are of course many heavy metal books that you can find in most bookstores or on online retail sites such as Amazon, so the question remains : which ones to read ?

Not all black metal books are made equal.

Some contain very accurate information about the extreme metal scene, and black metal in particular, while others are totally devoid of content save for what you could find on Metalious or even Wikipedia in a day of research.

Some of the best heavy metal books published in the last few years have been written by the expert author Antoine Grand.

His books are not only popular, they have been translated into over 11 languages (not bad for a musical style as obscure as extreme metal), they are also extremely informative and dangerously iconoclastic towards the posers and the fake within the black metal genre.

His latest book is the brilliantly titled Real Satanic Black Metal.

I heavily recommend you getting it as soon as possible as the contents are pure gold.

You can find Real Satanic Black metal on Amazon and most online bookstores.

Who are the True Masters of Satanic Black Metal ?

Who are the true masters of black metal ?

Many bands claim to “be black metal” or “adhere to black metal” or its associated movements, but very few known the inner secrets of a genre they in many cases came to worship and adulate.

So what are the inner secrets of black metal ?

Who are its true masters that dictate the codes of black metal ?

Some will claim that there are none, that black metal music is nothing but a spontaneous and extemporaneous artistic movement.

The reality of black metal and its history contradict this fundamentally flawed perception of the scene.

The truth is that, through its history, the black metal movement was and still is to this day, perhaps more than ever, a deliberate and careful premeditated crusade of obscure origins and concealed motives.

But who orchestrates and commands these black metal inner circles, secrets societies that exist within the black metal movement, establish its precepts and dictate its operations ?

This truth is what we will expose in this book.

[LOL] Do you remember Metal-Archives ?

The Metal-Archives Admin

The Metal-Archives Admin

Long time metalheads will remember the shit site Metal-Archives, a self-proclaimed “heavy metal archives” full of crappy reviews about bands no one cared about.

In its day, Metal-Archives had quite some followers on the Internet. The main reason being that there was a time where it was quite hard to find any decent information on the Internet about heavy metal bands, so you sort of took anything you came across at face value.

I know this can be hard to fathom in this day and age where you can’t go five minutes without someone blogging, tweeting or otherwise youtubing the most trivial details about some obscure band you don’t care about the lightest.

So one of the lone outposts of heavy metal back in those days was a sad little site called Metal-Archives, and while it was pretty famous in the heavy metal underground (albeit not for the best reasons), the content left a bit to be desired. And that’s an enormous understatement.

So what was on that shitty site anyway ?

The main content that could be found on Metal-Archives was a cluster of incredibly crappy reviews written by what appears to be a severely cognitively diminished 13 year old retard.

The reviews all follow the same pattern : poorly written, unbelievably superficial and often quite pseudo-intellectual reviews of several heavy metal albums.

But the real problem with this site, and what made its reputation in the heavy metal underground, was that the admins intentionally modified reviews and ratings on arbitrary albums.

Poor reviews on some bands are never published, so the band gets a “90%” rating even f the music is shit.

They also lie about bands and albums, claiming for example that Varg Vikernes of Burzum committed suicide in 2015 (on their home page) or that the band Antekhrist is from Norway, even though everyone knows they are from France and all their texts are written in French.

They also selectively blacklist random bands for no reason at all.

Most of their recent reviews are also plagiarized from other sites such as Deathmetal.org, Parti-Libertarien.com or even Metalious.

Metal-Archives is really a joke site, going so far as to ask for donations from the users they ban lol.

Thank god there are a lot better sites around theses days, such as Metalious.
